Women's Rides

top

VCJ Oxford road cycling club warmly welcomes women to join us, and we’re dedicated to building a more diverse peloton—starting by encouraging more women to ride with us.  Whatever your motivation, whether it’s getting fitter, cycling further, increasing self-confidence, meeting new people, or riding a sportive, VCJ has many experienced riders and we can support you, whatever your needs.

We have monthly women's rides which are good confidence-building, social rides with a coffee stop.  There is normally a group of 6-8 people of mixed ability.  We all cycle together and we are not worried about speed, so  come along and give it a try...  The distance is between 50-75km.  Pace around 23 kph.

  • When: The next ride is on Saturday 25th July 2025

  • Meet: 9am outside The Weston Library, opposite the The Sheldonian Theatre in Broad Street, Oxford

  • Finish: You should be back in Oxford between 12:30 - 13:00 (depending on ride distance)

Please see the VCJ New Rider's Guide for a list of essentials to bring along with you

on a ride.

What to expect?  All groups meet outside the Weston Library in Broad Street for a 9am

departure.  Everyone has a bit of chit chat and then the rides of the day will be called

out.  We all leave promptly at 9am in our groups.  Your ride leader will guide the group

on a route out of Oxford and to some of the best roads in the surrounding countryside.

Each route will bring you back to Oxford for the end of the ride.

The ride route is normally shared several days in advance on Strava and for VCJ

members via the VCJ Community.

One feature of the Women's rides is that we stop somewhere nice for a coffee mid-ride before heading back home to Oxford.  These are friendly, confidence building, 'non-drop' rides, which means we all go out and come back together.  Our aim is to ride in a well organised group at the speed of the slowest rider. â€‹â€‹

If you are a new rider, please tell the ride leader at the start of the ride, so they are aware.  But don't worry

because it won't take long to build up your road confidence.  We have put together here some useful tips

and information for you about group riding and safe riding.

Q. What to do if you want to come along?

A. Just let us know and we can look out for you.

If you want to come along with a friend that’s fine too, we will show you the ropes.  So now you just need to free yourself up for afew hours and come along.  We’d love it if you to joined us!

Q. What if you like road cycling and want to do more?

A. If you have tried a couple of rides and think that ‘this is your thing’, then you should become a member - this will give you member-only access to the VCJ Community, which includes information on all the upcoming club rides, club kit ordering, bike chat and socials.

Hope to see you on a ride soon!
